Up from the depths

Friends, family, I am back. The docs told me this am that my WBCs had reached 1.3, up from .7 the day before, and I would leave the hospital for the local apartment on Tuesday. Hooah! I would've blogged sooner, but I finally have slowed the flow of blood, mucus, and saliva so that I can write. I haven't a cup of coffee in 3 weeks, nor anything to eat, but that new bone marrow from Lisa has taken root and is pumping out WBCs.

Dana and Mike fittingly ran the Nike 1/2 marathon today and are doing well. Just a short blog for now, more gritty details to follow as I rise firther from the depths.

ps. all the cell-o's I returned were over-caffeinated so don't blame me if you were able to sleep for the first time in over 40 years

  2. WooHooo!!! There is celebrating going on. So glad to hear that the you are feeling better John. I'd say you won that round, but it was looking pretty bad. Way to hang in there and play possum. Congratulations and keep on punching.

So glad also to hear that Dana and Mike were able to celebrate by participating in the Nike half marathon. Dana must have been clicking her heals together as she walked for you and Team in Training.

No drooling on the keyboard, please. You could try wrapping it in Saran Wrap.

  6. Pat dear,
I don't get here often but read your response to the bass plaque dealy and laughed so hard. This is a medical environment for the most part, right?
    The plaque really threw me!
Sorry Pat! I can be really stupid

So stoked that Mikey and Dana were able to complete the 1/2 marathon; I'm sure it was a great stress reliever and allowed for a powerful sense of accomplishment.

nananananananana--no way you could be stupid and survive 30 years with wacky macky--
    it's just...
John is in a medical environment.
I am very dull on the phone.
so he told me "fine! talk to me in public"
so I do (not because it's public but because I can write better than talk)
BUT I figure there are enough people writing very well about what is actually going on, so you might have noticed my mind tends to wander a little
(not off Johnny, just usually off the subject!
which is ok, because there is way more going on than what is medical, anyway, not that that fish had anything to do with anything.
maybe I consult you for a reality check on some of my other projects?

    Round Three Recap

Y’all recall, at the end of round two it looked like HolyCowCrazyPants had the fight well in hand – as though a grand slam was in the bag. It appeared that ear-eating Tyson was, in the end, nothing more than a boisterous intimidator – a hollow, shallow ghost of the former ringmeister.

As the fight progressed, the challenger summoned an inner army of little bastards and landed a few ominous blows to CrazyPants, leaving the champ with a bloody mouth and a tongue that made the ear of a flea look like Dumbo’s trunk.

    IV drips and med cocktails appeared from all corners of the arena, in glorious attempts to bring HolyCow relief from the mucositis and severe suffering that appeared relentless. Neither family nor friends could rouse the champ to offer encouraging signs of a comeback. Although the usual supporters knew the champ would rebound as the hour of engraftment neared - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -then passed.

Other fighters, whom had experienced being down, but not out, in similar fights, offered priceless encouragement to the champ’s corner, leaving the spectators with a degree of hope consistent with that of a golf shot that lands on the slope of a green and is mildly enticed to accept the ball and embrace the slant of the fine blades of grass that lead the tiny white sphere to the holiness of the cup.

As the bell rang, HolyCowCrazyPants slipped into a trance-like state that threw a confusing curve to the challenger. He’s now back on his feet, shuckin an jiven an dancin like Ali with Smokin Joe in his sights.

Can’t wait to see what the Champ has up his mask for the next round.
